The Second Box- Joseph Smith Memorial

Ruth and I visited another place that is in the area where I grew up, yet I have not really ever explored before. Another letterbox drew to us to the Joseph Smith Memorial, where the Prophet of the Church of the Latter Day Saints was born. Although I do not share the belief system of these folks, I found the staff to be welcoming and not at all pushy. If you are ever in the Sharon VT area, this was a free hike and a neat place to just poke around. I did not need to sign anything, and the staff were more than friendly to both myself and Ruth.

Ruth and I followed the directions to our box, and took photos along the way.

This old foundation spot was in the same space as our "find". Letterboxing is a great way for Ruth and I to get out and exercise, as well as learning new things. I think I may have to pull out out box, take photos and explain it a bit more.

On this hike, we not only enjoyed the views, we learned about how bridges were created in the late 1700's. The road that we followed was a "turnpike" in the early 1800's, and this bridge was in place at the time.

Not only was it narrow, but this huge crack was visible from where we were walking! I was thankful that the water was low.

On this day, the rain held off until we were back to the top of this very long hill. Devine intervention, I am sure. :)

At a place about half way up, there was this bench to sit and rest. It was quaint made of hand hewn wood. The spot was just right for sitting and reflecting, as well as for catching your breathe for the rest of the hike. :)
