We have been worrying for the past several years, wondering when the other shoe would fall. Would the next lay off be the one? When will it come? How long until we will have to rely on faith to see us through.
The wait is over.
While I was grocery shopping this afternoon, my phone rang. It was Darrell. His employer called and he was notified that effective the 18th, he will no longer have a job. He was already not going to work tonight for an extended 3 day weekend. He has Thursday and Friday off, which means he is done. Plain and simple, done.
There is a plus side. I was able to have enough money this past week, after paying bills to splurge. I could have used it to travel to northern New England to hold a great-nephew. But, I used my head, I hope...
Here is my splurge:
Plus, there are several bags to be put away. It is our intense hope that we can stock the freezer in a similar manner. For awhile, my family will be safe, fed, and hopefully warm. We have lasted through winters before. This will be different, only because we have become accustomed to extras like TV. movies, or even Internet. These will slowly fade away, not all, but some. We will realign our priorities, and place those that are most important at the top. The rest will be negotiated, and we will find joy in the fact that Darrell is home, where we can all be together.
Now, how to break the news to Ruth that she can't sleep with me on Fridays anymore....

God is incredibly faithful as we both know. so i anticipate stories on glimpses of his hand in the next few weeks and months!
Oh dear! Good for you to make such a practical decision and fill your pantry. I'm sorry about Darrell's job but as you said, it is a blessing in disguise. You know how to weather the storms and WHO to rely on. I'm thinking about you. Love, Kathy
P.S. Sounds like Christie will have her hands full with the competition for Logan's attention!
Tough times- sorry to hear about your husband's job. Glad to see that you are relying on the Lord. Good thinking on stocking that pantry!
